Description

Handcrafted to suit the user’s needs, our divan beds are built to exact specifications and provide a flexible solution combining both aesthetics and comfort. As standard, all models include a beech sprung slatted frame, and are subject to rigorous quality control tests before leaving the factory floor, ensuring that you get the high quality product possible.

There is also the option of an electric profiling version that includes a two motor system with a soft touch, easy-to-use hand control. This system is split into four sections for adjustable mattress control. The head end elevation is ideal for aiding breathing or simply sitting upright, whereas the knee brake adjustment provides more relief to pressure points and prevents the user from sliding down the bed. Other mechanisms can be source where needed if necessary.

Static or electric?

Electrical divan beds are often the more popular option for most clients regardless of their needs, as the profiling mattress platform contours and to the user’s body shape to provide the most comfort and support possible. The positioning functions are also great to assist with sitting up and changing position with ease. However, static divan beds are also available where this is deemed more appropriate, or where a second matching bed is required in a room. With double or kingsize beds, we can provide 2 separate electric actions, an electric action on one side and static platform the other, or both sides as a static mattress platform.

Size

Single, 4-foot-wide, double, kingsize, and super kingsize divan beds are all available. In fact, we can manufacture any size you require, regardless of whether extra width, extra length, a narrower width, or a shorter length is required. On wider beds we are able to fit 2 separate mattress platforms, with a choice of electric profiling or static types. This allows couples to alter their position independently to each other.

A critical dimension is the height of the bed, as the top of the mattress needs to be high enough to enable the user to get out of bed easily, but low enough to get into bed easily. We are able to assess the exact height required (taking into account the compression of the mattress) and manufacture the bed to suit the client’s needs in this regard.

Style

From traditional styles through to modern contemporary designs, our divan beds can fit in with any decor. Various bed designs are also offered, including the upholstered ‘Classic’ range (which can be supplied as a divan on turned beech legs, or as a deep divan on castors), the sleigh bed style, and the pine surround style (natural, antique, or waxed).

A wide choice of coverings are available on the Classic range and the sleigh bed style, including fabric, leather, and suede. On the classic range, clients can also choose the headboard design, with options of the Emerald, the Emerald with Buttons, the Pearl, the Ruby, and the Topaz.

Mattress

The mattress is obviously the most important choice as far as comfort is concerned. Yorkshire Care Equipment offer a range of mattresses, all handmade to the size of the bed and to meet the needs of the client. Everyone is different, so we offer different foam combinations and types to provide varying comfort and support levels.

All of the divan bed mattresses come with a padded knitted stretch cover. This enables the mattress to contour to the user’s body shape more accurately, distributing pressure more effectively and ultimately increasing comfort. This can be unzipped for washing.

Reflex

Reflex foam contours to the user’s body shape, thereby reducing the build up of pressure in any one point. It does this by displacing the air bubbles inside the foam sideways. When the pressure is removed, the bubbles quickly return and the foam assumes its original shape. This foam is popular due to the support it provides, and is often used as a supportive layer below softer latex or memory foams. It is available in 3 densities including Medium, Firm, and Extra Firm (although Extra Firm is rarely used).

Latex

Latex is a soft, natural foam which contours to your body shape, but springs back into place as soon as pressure is released or shifted onto another area. It is constructed with a matrix of small holes, which encourage air circulation for a cooling effect. We would often recommend Latex foam to be used on top of a base layer of Reflex foam, as getting in and out of the bed and turning in bed can be difficult without this extra support.

Memory

Memory foam, otherwise known as visco elastic foam, is a pressure absorbing material which was originally created by NASA to cushion and support astronauts during lift off. This foam is soft and moulds to the user’s body shape for the relief of pressure. Again, we would always recommend that Memory foam is used on top of a base layer of Reflex foam, as getting in and out of the bed and turning in bed can be difficult, and many users find that too much body heat is retained without this extra support.

Other Foams & Custom-Made Mattresses

Where it is deemed necessary, Yorkshire Care Equipment can custom-make mattresses using different foams and foam combinations, cut in different ways, each made to suit the individual.

Options & Accessories

Options such as under-bed storage drawers, and accessories such as bed rails to promote independence are available to provide that finishing touch for the user.
